Sikles Trekking

Sikles Trekking is one of the short treks close to the main trekking region in the Annapurna region. This trek is fresh and virgin trekking routes in the north east of Pokhara. You will reach no higher than 2000 meters so that it is best treks that are coming from lower elevations. This easy and moderate treks starts and end in the lap of naturally beautiful city pokhara.  Sikles have its identity of oldest and second largest Gurung (Gurkha) village in Nepal. Furthermore sikles is a central part of the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA). The Siklles village lies above the Mardhi Khola river (1981m). Another attraction of this village is that it lies in the shadow of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal.

Sikles Trekking offers you wonderful views of the Annapurna and Manasulu ranges from Tara Hilltop. You will see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South (7219m), Himchuli(6441m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Lamjung Himal and Manaslu ranges and other giants mountains from a uniquely scenic angle. Moreover, this region is famous for bird watching because of its pristine forested surroundings where different species of birds thrive. You will cross through oak, rhododendron and bamboo forest and follow ancient trails to the Madi Khola valley and stay in the village of sikles, Tang Ting and Bhujung. Furthermore, the trekker can easily spend several days practicing local life style of Buddhist Gurung culture.

Here the jhakri the shame and lama the priest have much more important role in this Buddhist community, marriage, death, dealing with ill fate and day –to – day lives of people there. Moreover, Gurung people are rich on their culture. Folk songs and dances are important parts of their life. They performances are common occurrences in Sikles. Similarly, Ghatu dance is famous for among the trekker which was performed by three young girls. Trekkers can enjoy by camping at unique sites, eat the local dishes and witness daily life unfold around us. Similarly, handicraft production, sight-seeing, local cloth weaving and the ancient water driven flourmills are another attraction of sikles.

Furthermore, Sikles trekking is famous for its well-maintained rustic flair of traditional Gurung villages. The lanes of the village are narrow with alleys and flanked by stones. House of this area is made by mud and stone mixture. There are five traditional vicinities around sikles trekking. They are Lama-Thar, Sabha-thar, Harpu-thar, Dhaprang-thar and Gairi-thar. Those villages are bearing its own significance in the community.

Day 02: Drive to Bijayapur Khola (30min drive)- Trek to Kalikasthan (1150m, 4hrs walk)

Brief Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m, 6hrs)

Day 02:  Drive from Pokhara to Bijayapur and Trek to Kalikasthan (1370m)

A 30 minute drive to Bijayapur Khola (Bijayapur Army Camp) takes us to the starting point of the trek. The route takes us through agricultural fields then ascends through Rakhigaon. Then the trail gently climbs along a ridge top through the Brahmin and Chhetri villages towards Kalikasthan.

Day 03: Trek from Kalikasthan to Sikles Phedi

The route begins by passing through local villages and rice terraces up to Mardi Khola. En route, you cross Bhaise, Nawaldanda to reach Sikles Phedi, a small village surrounded by lush green hills. Tonight, we will be camping right beside the river.

Day 04: Trek from Sikles Phedi to Parche (1980m) 

The trail goes uphill all the way to Parche, which is our today’s destination; you can enjoy the magnificent views of Annapurna II, and Lamjung Himal. The trail climbs again until we reach Siklis village. Stay overnight at teahouse or camp.

Day 05:  Exploration Day at Parche

Today will be the exploration day at Parche. You will hike downhill to Sikles,  the largest Gurung settlements in this area. This will give you enough time to discover the unique Gurung culture and heritages. You will be entertained by local cultural program at your camp side after dinner.
Day 06: Trek from Parche to Tara Hilltop (3055m)

Again the trail passes through forests of rhododendron going gradually uphill to Tara Hilltop. From Tara Hilltop, you will be seeing breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges.
Day 07:  Trek from Tara Hilltop to Bhurjumg Khola and drive to Pokhara

After having breakfast with the panorama view of mountains, we then descend down Ghale Kharka, one of the largest Ghale settlements. You will be having lunch here and further trek down to Bhurjumg Khola, the end of our trek. You then drive half an hour to reach Pokhara.

Day 08: Back to Kathmandu by Tourist bus.
